Artist Statement
Painting, for me, is an act of joyful attention, whether working abstractly or with a specific subject. I work in a process-driven way, adapting my approach to the materials, images, and starting conditions of each piece.
In my abstract and mixed media work, I follow what unfolds rather than what is planned. I often turn the piece as I work, allowing forms and ideas to surface through layering and the interaction of materials.
While my abstract and mixed media work is guided by emergence, my private commissions are typically more referential. I interpret what holds attention, then translate those elements through my own visual language and technique.
Simply put, I stay with things long enough for them to reveal themselves.
